Tonje Mathiesen Gilje
Tonje grew up in Norway and has always led an active lifestyle. As a teenager Tonje developed her love of sport through her initial involvement in swimming at a competitive level. Over a number of years, Tonje’s love of physical activity grew and as she broadened her involvement and included activities such as step aerobics, yoga, pilates, pump and kick boxing classes. Growing up in a cold climate also led to Tonje’s passion for snowboarding, as she spent most weekends on the slopes.
In January 2003 Tonje made the move down under to Australia to undertake a tertiary qualification in design. Despite being involved in pilates and yoga when she was younger, this is when practising Pilates and Yoga became part of her daily ritual. Tonje has now been practising for five years. During that time she has experienced spiritual, emotional and physical benefits and as a consequence developed a desire to share this with others. This led her to pursuing a career as a pilates instructor.
Tonje then went on the complete a Fitness lll-, and Fitness lV Certificate and also Pilates Teacher Training Certificate. Her years of experience as a pilates student and her qualification as a pilates instructor has enabled her to share this passion with others.
Tonje has a Bachelor of Design Studies from Griffith University. Her creative side flows over into her classes with her innovative and flamboyant approach to every class. She caters to varying client needs by focussing on the core postural muscles and uses key pilates principles which in turn strengthen and maintain balance in the body. Tonje is a dynamic and approachable pilates teacher and enjoys designing high energy classes with a range postures which provide awareness of the breath and alignment of the spine.
Tonje is available for mobile private sessions, semi private and group classes in both pilates and personal training, and she can’t wait to share her passion with others!
