Ben’s Testimonials

When I started working with Ben my levels of general fitness and strength in comparison to now was very poor, although I was not really aware of that at the time. My progress, on reflection, has been remarkable. When I started with Ben I could dumbbell press 4kg per arm lying on a swiss ball – I can now press 18kg per arm. I am comfortable with cleans of 30kg, dead lifts of 72kg and front squats of 70kg. I am also running 10km races (9.9km further than previously!) and have also lost about 10 kilos in weight over the last 3 years. Ben is very easy to get on with, very knowledgeable – clearly an expert in his field, flexible, tough when he needs to be and has a great sense of humour.

‘He does not use a ‘one size fits all’ approach and carefully tailors each program to the individual, their lifestyle and their goals. Ben was a huge source of support when I was diagnosed with breast cancer in my late twenties in 2006. After me mastectomy, Ben masterminded my rehabilitation and supported and trained me through my desire to compete in the London triathlon within 1 year of major surgery. His gentle encouragement, superior training skills and programs with his understanding of my character ensured that I completed this challenge and enjoyed it.

My biggest challenge has been to participate in the London marathon in April 2006, as a good friend who passed away from cancer. When we started training I could not even run a mile. During the training I had a horrendous run of injuries, which were mainly due to my pregnancies and the way I had been carrying the children. I was getting physio treatment on my hip and lower back and Ben worked in conjunction with the physiotherapist correcting the muscle imbalances, strengthening my core musculature to strengthen all my main running muscles. Without his help I definitely would not have been able to continue the training that I had to do in order to successfully complete the race.

In recent years I have suffered with lower back pain and sciatica and Ben has proved invaluable in teaching me exercises and stretches, which allowed me to ease the symptoms and relieve the pain. We have worked extensively on developing my core strength and overall body posture, in particular strengthening my back muscles.

I first began training with Ben 3 years ago. I had become a bit of a gym junkie but wasn’t seeing the results that I had been expecting. Ben quickly taught me that I could reduce the length of time I had been spending at the gym by exercising more wisely. We then trained through my first pregnancy and he has given me a fantastic post-natal programme, which has quickly bought my levels of fitness and strength back to where they were.

On telling Ben I had decided to run the London marathon this year, we changed everything to concentrate on being in the best possible state of mind and fitness for this challenge. Ben even went out of his way to set up a 6-month training plan and made sure I did the necessary core strength work needed to minimize injuries and complete the race. He has made me more focused in where I want to be fitness wise and has become a personal friend as well.
