Amanda Van-Eyk
Amanda began to appreciate the role that nutrition plays in a healthy lifestyle as an elite junior athlete. Recognising the link between nutritious food and her physical performance, she started to experiment in the kitchen with a variety of foods and now loves to share her ideas and enthusiasm for healthy eating habits.
Having completed her degree in Human Movement Studies and Education, Amanda taught Physical Education and Health, as well as Food and Nutrition at a school of sporting excellence, helping students understand the importance of establishing lifelong healthy attitudes towards food and physical activity.
In 2006 Amanda worked at a low socio economic school in South London (United Kingdom) that did not have a healthy food policy. She developed and implemented a Healthy Eating Program for the staff and students. Despite limited resources and kitchen facilities, her lectures and afternoon cooking classes instilled good eating habits in the school community. The meals were prepared by students with the aim of teaching healthy cooking techniques, and were then offered through the school canteen as a nutritious lunchtime choice.
Upon her return to Australia, Amanda continued nutrition education classes with children and established cooking classes as part of the Police and Citizens€™ Youth Club holiday program. She also worked as a health promotion officer for the Queensland Association of School Tuckshops developing strategies to increase the availability of healthy food options in sporting clubs and venues.
Amanda is currently completing her Masters in Nutrition and Dietetics to build on her 10 years of experience in helping others to understand and enjoy the benefits of healthy food options in an active lifestyle.
