Having faith in the process

Thursday, July 10 2008

As you will have read, some of our Chisel Fitness clients just completed an individual goal at the Gold Coast Marathon.

Some competed in the 10km whilst others completed the 21.1km Half Marathon.  Despite the differences in distances and time, all of these people had one thing in common...

They all had faith in the process

Every one of those people who completed a run on the weekend was rewarded because they had faith in the process.

The process of tireless hours of training in the lead up to such an event.  The process of getting out of bed early in the cold, dark mornings to complete yet another training run.  The process of building a fitness base that they could call upon and test on race day.

Faith needs to be there when rewards are not!

It's important to have faith in the process behind what you are doing, because rewards are not always that easy to find.

Take for example our runners - in the lead up to last Sunday, they completed between 60 - 90 training sessions to prepare them for the event.  It's basically impossible to recognise any rewards after one of these sessions, let alone all 60 - 90 of them.

Sure each run was beneficial for them and they gain strength, endurance capacity and mental toughness along the way, but these all things that are very hard to gauge and even harder to recognise on a daily basis.

But each person kept plugging along, and turning up to every training session (with the exception of one or two Monday morning sleep ins - yes Jasmine we are talking about you!!!) with the faith that the all training will help them on race day.

It's just as important for every goal!

And the same faith in the process is needed no matter what your health and fitness goal is.

  • Body builders need to get into the gym and often repeat the same routine time and time again to get the smallest of gains that could mean the difference between winning and losing.
  • Sprinters spend countless hours on the track, committing huge amounts of time and energy to the process, in the hope that it will take microseconds off their time.
  • People who are trying to lose weight need to understand that it is a lengthy and sometimes difficult process that is made all the more easier by consistent efforts.
And to end my sermon....

Put simply.....do the work and you will get results!

They won't always come quickly, they won't be very easy to see, but they will happen.

  1. Commit to a goal
  2. Immerse yourself in the necessary process that will help you achieve the goal
  3. Have faith in the process and keep on keeping on!

....and then one day you will be able to sit back and enjoy your rewards!!

Cheers
