Have you caught the exercise bug?

Friday, December 14 2007

I have just returned from a run down along Currumbin and Tugun beaches with a bunch of my clients and saw something that reminded me of a conversation I had earlier in the week.

Brendon, a client, and I were having a chat about how contagious exercise can be.

Make it a family affair

Nearly 2 months ago I started training Brendon and his son Jack on a Wednesday afternoon.  (Brendon and Jack are preparing to ride from Perth to the Gold Coast in September next year to raise money for the charity Big Brothers Big Sisters)

Since then I have also started to train Brendon's wife Mel (of Queen of the Hill fame), and every Monday and Friday morning all three of them come along to the Chisel Fitness running group along Currumbin beach front.

Brendon and Mel's other son Harry eventually got hit by the bug and has started to turn up to complete a session before school (although now he's on holidays the bed seems to be winning the odd early morning battle), and Laura their daughter is now coming along with Mel to the Thursday morning womens only group at Currumbin Creek.

What a turn up...

And like I said earlier...the exercise bug seems to be spreading.

I have noticed more and more people getting out and doing some exercise in the early hours of the morning (it always seems to happen now that summer is here), and this morning we were joined by at least 3 new groups as we stormed up the stairs.

For me personally there is no better way to start the day and it's great to see so many people catching on and getting active.

So come and catch the bug

Are you one of those people I see walking, running, cycling every morning?

If not then set your alarm and come and catch the bug.

  • Organise to go for a walk or jog with a friend
  • Get your husband/wife out of bed early a couple of days next week or
  • Contact Chisel Fitness and come and join in with one of our group sessions

Catch this bug and I guarantee you'll start to feel the benefits straight away.

Cheers

Oprah's favourite things

Monday, December 10 2007

I have just come home to grab some lunch in between clients, only to find my fiancé on her lunch break in front of the Oprah Winfrey show.  Today's episode is called Oprah's Favourite Things, and in the show Oprah gives every member of the studio audience a bunch of gifts for Christmas.

The gifts range from the cheap to the expensive, small to large, novel to practical.

And it got me thinking....

Seeing Oprah give away this great variety of gifts got me thinking about some novel gift ideas for people who have everything.

Every year, no matter how prepared you are, there seems to be that one person who is always hard to buy for.

Problem solved

And for all those people I have come up with a great solution-

Personal Training sessions!!!

Why not get that special person some personal training sessions with one of the experienced staff at Chisel Fitness.

Chances are that the person you are buying for is not currently getting enough exercise each week.

A recent study by Sports Medicine Australia has found that half of Australia's adult population are currently not active enough to maintain good health.  1 in 5 people questioned in the study don't even manage a 10 minute walk each week.  When asked to give reason's why they listed

  • Long working hours
  • Increased commuting time
  • Lack of facilities in the area
Let Chisel Fitness fix all of the above...

That's why Chisel Fitness provide the perfect option as a Christmas gift.  All of our staff are mobile trainers and will travel to meet clients at a location that suits them.  We bring all of the equipment with us and are highly experienced in making exercise FUN!!!

Take advantage of our FREE Initial Consultation and Introductory session, and give someone special a session for Christmas.  For the price of one session, your gift will ensure that the lucky person will get to spend at least 2 and a half hours with one of the most experienced trainers in the industry today.

So what are you waiting for...contact Chisel Fitness today to get that special someone a unique and fantastic present this Christmas.

Cheers

Queen of the Hill

Friday, December 7 2007

One of the most rewarding things about being a trainer, is to see the different emotions that exercise brings out in people.

Every Friday and Monday morning there is a group of us who meet at Currumbin Alley and go for a run.  We vary the session from week to week, but one thing that is always constant is the tough task of going over a really tough hill on Woodgee Street.

It certainly isn't a race but we all try to make it to the top as best we can.  Sometimes that means getting to the top in record time and sometimes that means getting as far as you can and walking the rest.

Congratulations Mel!!!

This morning one of the group members, Mel, made it all the way to the top for the very first time.

WELL DONE MEL!!!

Over the last couple of weeks Mel has been getting stronger in her running and this morning was a great result that she has worked really hard to achieve.

Hidden emotions

Like I said earlier, I love seeing the different emotion that exercise brings to people.

When we reached the top of Woodgee Street, Mel probably wasn't quite ready to start jumping around and shouting, but you could see in her face that she was proud of her new achievement.

And as we stood exhausted and chatting in the car park after the session, you could tell that Mel just might be mentioning her run to a few people over the next couple of days.

In fact, I will go one step further and suggest that Mel is probably skipping around the office as I write this, gloating to all who will listen that she is a supreme athlete.

Nice one Mel....you deserve it...today you are Queen of the Hill

Want to know an easy way to lose weight?

Wednesday, December 5 2007

Just before this bad weather set in on the Gold Coast, I was doing a group fitness class on the beach in Mermaid.  It's a women's only class that is specifically designed to give a whole body work out and decrease body fat percentages.

I have been doing this session in the same spot for a number of weeks now and every week we seem to have the same ladies running past us on the sand with a pain filled expression across their faces.

All women want the same thing

Every woman that I meet through training wants the same thing.  Not most but ALL of them list somewhere in their training goals, a desire to lose weight and Chisel  (tone)up.

Girls running on the beach

I can guarantee that all the woman who run past our group session every week with the pained expressions on their faces are doing it for the same reason.  I know this because woman are funny.

They are funny because every year around summer time their seems to be more women out training as they fold to the pressure of achieving the 'bikini body'.

and

They are funny because every year they seem to be doing the same thing....a long hard slow slog along the sand or pavement, clocking up miles and mile in their running shoes, and looking like they are not enjoying a single minute of it!!!

It doesn't need to be this way!!!

Now any woman reading this post, listen here...IT'S DOESN'T NEED TO BE THAT HARD!

We have had some fantastic results with woman in our group training sessions.  Those who turn up regularly have all lost weight and changed their body shapes BECAUSE WE KNOW THE SECRET!

Fast, Effective, Efficient Results!

Now it's not because we are the greatest trainers on earth (although this is very true!), that Chisel Fitness is getting these results.  Nor is it because we yell and scream and push our woman harder than any other trainers out there.

We get results because we understand the human body and design simple, effective and efficient group session to get results FAST!

Plenty of rest....

Like I said earlier we know the human body.  The most effective way for the human body to burn fat is to raise your metabolism (the rate at which your body uses fat to function in day to day activities such as walking to the shops, sitting at your desk, opening the fridge door).

Sure, running along the beach for long periods of time is going to raise your metabolism but it won't stay raised for long.  Most of the time within 2 hours of finishing running your body will have adapted and returned to a normal state.

Instead of running, one of the things that our group sessions focus on is using High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT).

By doing short periods of high intensity work (15 - 90 seconds) and giving your body plenty of time to recover, we train your body to keep burning more fat all day long!  That way your metabolism stays elevated throughout the day as your body adapts to the training you have done.

Burn more fat in less time

HIIT has been proven to burn up to 9 times more fat post exercise than 45 minutes of continuous steady paced running....AND IT TAKES LESS TIME!

The beauty of the HIIT, is that you only need to do 6-10 short bursts of exercise to get the results.  That means exercising for less time and getting better results!  Simple really.

Come and have fun for FREE

Don't believe us?

Why not come along to one of our female only group sessions to see for yourself.  During the month of December Chisel Fitness is offering you the chance to come along to a session for no cost at all to see if you like them.

If you like it...come back.  If not....keep running along that straight line but PLEASE try to look like you are enjoying it.

Welcome to a healthy lifestyle!

Monday, December 3 2007

As all of our Chisel Fitness clients will know, we like to give you as much help as we can to help you achieve a healthy lifestyle.

Whenever we meet a new client we like to present them with what we call our 'Welcome Pack'.  It's nothing complicated, just a little pack with some information about ourselves and some handy tips to help you achieve the most from your training.

Here are just a few easy to follow tips that anyone can try to ensure you are achieving the most from your training.

Chisel Fitness Training tips

Eat More Weigh Less

By increasing the number of meals that you eat and spacing them evenly throughout the course of the day you are giving your metabolism a big boost and keeping it going through the steady intake of food.

Water is your best friend

Feeling hungry but trying to lose weight? Try drinking 200 – 300ml of water and see if you’re still craving a snack. The body can be a bit funny at times and one of those times is when you are dehydrated. Your body will tell you its hungry when really it wants water. Try having a drink and if your still hungry afterwards then have a healthy snack and fuel that metabolism.

Getting the most out of your session

By eating within 30 min of a training session you are giving yourself the best chance of a positive outcome from you session.

Try to make it a liquid meal so that it is more readily absorbed by the body and make sure that it contains a mixture of carbs and protein. By doing this and following it up with a solid meal within 90 min of your session you have just put yourself in a great position to maximize your results.

Read the Label

A simple little trick for those just starting to watch what they eat, have a look at the labels next time you’re buying your groceries.

As you look at the list of ingredients on the label remember that they are listed in the order of greatest quantity, so if sugar and salt are in the top 3 spots… Step away from the shelf…

Try these small tips to ensure you are getting the most from your sessions.

Cheers
