Journey to Ironman!

Monday, June 23 2008

Back in April I traveled down to Port Macquarie to watch the Australian Ironman Triathlon.

The Ironman Triathlon is one of the toughest endurance events around.  It consists of 3.8km swim, 180km bike ride, and 42.2km run (a marathon!).

It was such an inspiring day watching all the competitors who have obviously spent so many hours training and preparing for this one race.

99% of the competitors have no aspiration to win, however they have a drive and determination that helps them to not only conquer the course, but often their own personal journey along the way.

So here I go!

So I thought I would give it a go.

I have done a few half marathons in the past (I took forever!!!), and am helping two Gold Coast cyclists prepare for their own big journey, but other than that have no experience in the sport of triathlon or for that matter endurance racing.

For some reason the Ironman intrigues me and I want to not only find out what it's like to finish an event like this, but also what it's like to devote so much time to training for one of these events.

Video update #1.

As part of this journey I thought it would be interesting to keep a video diary along the way and I am going to post regular video's on the site so that other's can share in my journey.

Here is the small video that I made whilst down in Port Macquarie in April.

I am posting it today, as today marks 20 weeks until the Half Ironman that I need to complete before I am eligible to have a crack at the big one.

For a clearer picture, click on the video twice and choose to watch in High Quality once on the Youtube home page.

Hope you enjoy the video's and be sure to check back regularly for more updates.

Cheers

Out of his mind?......nah....just the name of the song!

Tuesday, June 17 2008

I have mentioned before on this blog that winter is the season when many people take a step back from exercise, find an excuse and tuck themselves under the cover for a couple of months.

Well not this kid!!!

Meet the exception.....Jack Sinclair! (not sure who that ugly bloke beside him is!)

I have written about 15 year old Jack before on this post and it's time to give you an update on this courageous young man.

For those of you who don't know, Jack is one of our clients at Chisel Fitness and this September he is embarking on one massive challenge.

4500km's on a bike in 30 days!

On September 11, Jack is going to start his journey from Perth across to Surfers Paradise on his bike.. He is taking his dad, Brendon along for the ride, and together they will be raising money for Big Brother's Big Sisters, a mentoring program that provides friendship and support for disadvantaged youth.

Check out his cool video

As the song says, and many of you must be thinking, "Is he out of his mind?"

No....Jack's just a great kid who wants to help others. Check out his latest video with the cool song.

Like to help?

When people hear about Jack and his ride, they often want to do something to help.

If you are one of those people, check out the Perth to Paradise website and contact one of the many great people who have agreed to help Jack along the way. You can donate prizes for raffles, help with fundraising or just come along to the Trivia Night on Saturday night for some fun!

Every little bit helps.....which is exactly why Jack is doing the ride in the first place.

Nice one Jack.....keep up the good work

Cheers

The world is back to normal!!!

Thursday, June 12 2008

Like I promised yesterday, here is an update after the world was returned to normal last night!

In perhaps the most brutal and most impressive performance in State of Origin history, QLD absolutely annihilated NSW in last night's game.

It was particularly special to see 2 local boys, Darius Boyd and Ben Hannant score tries for the Mighty Maroons!!!

Well done boys and good luck finishing the job down in Sydney.

Cheers

Just a quick one...

Wednesday, June 11 2008

I know that we haven't been putting too many updates on the site recently.

It's fair to say that here at Chisel Fitness we didn't take the loss in the first State of Origin too well.

But the good news is that it's on again tonight and we would love to wish all the readers a very happy State of Origin.

GO QUEENSLAND!!!

Tomorrow morning, after Queensland win and the world is back to normal, we promise to put some more regular updates on the site!!

Cheers
